People are more likely to respond. Companies too, if you have services to offer. Compliments are free. Give out many â€" only if sincere â€" to other job seekers or anyone else in a lull where compliments come few and far between. Show appreciation to the woman cleaning your building or the man cleaning the street. If a company rejects your application but does it promptly, thank them for being upfront with you. Be a resume checker. People spend so much time staring at their resumes that they often overlook basic additions or mistakes. Your second look can do wonders. It's a question that you'll hear quite often in the literature, and one of the things that you need to know is that you can't tell if you've done a good job or not by yourself.Because it is such a simple question, I will tackle it in very simple terms. You can never be completely sure that you've accomplished a great job because you might still have a lot to do. To know that you have completed your first job successfully, you have to be satisfied and able to say 'I did it.'But that doesn't mean that you have to write a great job on your resume. It also doesn't mean that you have to just go out and proclaim that you are rewriting your resume. What you can say is that you did a great job at doing the first job and you feel confident enough to say that you are ready to put it all into words for your next job.Sometimes people are so busy with their first job t hat they don't even think about what they should say next. On the other hand, there are people who are often content to just give vague answers to the question 'did you write a good job?' If this is you, then I recommend you consider going back to the basics. Let's start from the beginning.Start by making sure that you didn't forget about the fact that you should always provide information that is factual and should be supported by a document in the right position. I am sure that you didn't forget about that, did you? The fact that you are using a document from the right position is a sign that you are providing accurate and important information.In order to use this knowledge in the most effective way possible, I recommend taking a few minutes to go through the document that you used before. Then look for inconsistencies or missing information. You may find that you didn't have everything right, so this won't be the only time that you are rewriting your resume.But at least you'll b e able to find one little detail and fix it immediately. This will make you so much more confident and will help you have confidence in the things that you are doing next.So to conclude, I would recommend that you come up with a great phrase to say you are rewriting your resume. But make sure that you know that this phrase must be based on actual words that you used in the document before. This will make it easier for you to provide the information that you need and will also make it easier for you to become more confident.

How to Bulletproof Your Job in a Poor Economy - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Stephen Viscusi, who is an author and Americas workplace guru.   He talks about why its so important to focus on your current job and protect yourself now.   I dont completely agree with his view that your job is more important than your career, even in poor economic situations because you always have to be thinking about your next career move or you will lose your job (career relevancy).   I think his best point is to have a good relationship with your manager.   To me, that is extremely important because if you have a bad relationship, you wont last there long. Do you think your job is your most valuable asset or your career? How do you differ between both? In a recessionary economy like today’s with unemployment on the rise as it has been since March for the first time in 8 years, your job (where you get your income today) is more important than your career. In a more positive economic time, your “career” is more important. There have been hundreds of thousands of job loses since January of this year. Rather than freak out what 3-5 tips can you give people to focus on their job and not losing it? They are as simple as coming in early and staying late, perfect the art of looking busy, have a personal relationship with your boss â€" “chemistry,” and know the “office gossip.” They all work as a formula. I guarantee it. What are your 4 simple strategies for dodging the layoff bullet? Be visible. Be easy. Be useful. Be ready. Can you give an example of a worker that kept their job because they wore a bullet-proof vest? The book release is September 2nd. There’s no data on the book’s success yet. However, I have independently seen all of these tips work. Ive blogged about the idea of being indispensable before. Do you think this is really possible considering the new workplace? No one is indispensable, and there is no way to make yourself indispensable. This book is about building chemistry â€" a personal relationship with your boss, so that your co-worker gets fired and not you. How does one use technology in the workplace for protection. Any humorous things youve heard of? I suggest creating a Google or Technorati alert about your boss and your company. See if your boss gets a DWI. Stephen Viscusi is an author, columnist and radio talk show host in the workplace genre. Fast Company has come out with the tenth edition of its list of the most innovative companies in the world. Each year, they scour the world and assess thousands of companies, looking for those that tap both heartstrings and purse strings and use the engine of commerce to make a difference in the world. Welcome to the jungle This years list saw a major coup by Amazon as they leapt 5 places to top the list. Its unsurprising when you consider the incredible leaps and bounds that the one-time online bookstore has made in the past 12 months. From AI assistants to delivery by drone, Amazon have been relentlessly pursuing new business ventures, making millions of lives easier in the process. Elsewhere, Google came in at 2nd place after parent company Alphabet placed 9th in last years list. Uber climbed one place to 3rd, followed closely behind by Apple. Internet giant Facebook dropped from 3rd place in 2016 to 6th this year. Snap crackles and pops In a whirlwind turn of events, Snap Inc., the minds behind ubiquitous time-consumer Snapchat, shot up an astonishing 33 places to close out the top 5. The disruptive social tech company has a projected ad revenue of almost a billion dollars for this year. Snap will drop more hardware in 2017 to follow their reality-warping Spectacles, which caused a frenzy when they dropped in the US last year. Title 8 Tips for Handling Criticism at Work (Part 2) Hallie was honored to be featured in a recent Glamour.com article about how to make your work day go faster. As a follow up to this article, we wanted to share some additional tips with you. Criticism is not always a bad thing. Actually, receiving criticism at work is critical for career growth. We need to know how were doing at our jobs, and if there are areas we can improve. Ideally wed like it to be constructive criticism, but we dont get to choose, and it doesnt always come across that way. Respond positively. Its important to respond positively because if we are unable to react positively to criticism, it can make us appear hard to work with and not open to growth. In some cases it could cost you your job if its very specific feedback on an area you are responsible for. Employers want employees who are interested in growing, learning, and confident enough to be open to feedback. Focus on what was said. Try to focus on the criticism itself, not on the way it was said. If you cant understand why you have received a certain criticism, ask the person providing the input to give examples of how you can implement what they have said for clarification. And let them know youre willing to work on it. Let it sink in. Our natural reaction is to defend our actions and look for a way to dismiss any criticism. Try to avoid that and just let it sink in. Dont feel like you can do your job however you want and no one can tell you what to do. If you work for an organization, they have certain ways that they want things done, and they expect their employees to conform to their systems. Employees who arent willing to accept criticism usually dont last long, or dont get very far in their careers. Decide how you will implement the criticism immediately. After your boss has spoken with you, take some time to think about how you could start to adjust what you currently do at work to apply what was said. If your boss has given you specific examples, make sure to put them into practice the next time you perform those tasks. Try to view criticism as an opportunity to become a better version of you. Generally speaking, criticism at work has to do with your tasks at work, not other aspects of your life, so dont take it personally, keep it professional.
